A screw has been left with a broken jaw and fractured eye socket after he was attacked by an inmate. Insiders at the privately run HMP Northumberland claim the screw was “jumped” by a prisoner on Tuesday. It was alleged the unnamed screw was then rushed to hospital to undergo surgery. Information leaked also alleges an inmate had thrown boiling water over another screw on the same day, further claiming that they ‘lost control of the jail’.
HMP Northumberland has been embroiled in scandal since it was put under the control of Sodexo in December 2013. Last year there were several outbreaks of riot and disorder in the prison which involved suppression by riot police.
